This is When The Going Gets Tough

In three days, our marching band is going to the Texas State Marching Contest. There's only a state contest every other year, and for the past 3 state years, our school has always gotten second place! I think that's awesome, but for most people, it's lame because it means that's the best we can do and first is just too hard for us. So if we get second place again, I can imagine that more people would say "Ugh!" rather than "Yeah!" Which, IN MY OPINION, is a very negative way to look at it.
Anyways, a contest today, just a small matter, and then practice on Sunday, we leave on charter buses Monday, and, hopefully, win state on Tuesday. It's really sad that only band kids themselves realize how intense this all is. Well, the moms too. But I'm not sure they know how hard it is to do all the marching and playing right and well. At least if we do win state, which we 've never done, the people at our school might not think of us as losers that just walk around and play, but as the best around. Texas is a big state, and winning over all of the high schools here is no small feat.
