The Best Family Activity
So the electricity went out today. For about 4 hours. And what did we decide to do with our time? Well, I started randomly doing the dougie. And my mom saw and said, "Oh, that looks fun. Show ME how to do that." And I said, "Okay, but you have to say 'teach me how to dougie'," and my mom did, and then I showed her! But she wasn't very good. I had to start her off by showing her how to move the shoulders like you're doing a swag walk, but when we moved on to the actual movements she just gave up since I kept saying she shouldn't move her hips like a girl. It was at this point that I stopped to admire the rarity of this situation. It was a genuine family moment. And the fun REALLY began when my mom challenged my dad, saying, "I bet YOU can't do it," and my dad stood up to prove her wrong. Both their attempts were so adorably sad, it was so cute! But yes, this is probably the funnest thing we've done together all month. And I absolutely loved how hard they tried to do it right. I know that as parents get older, you become more aware that they won't be around forever. Add that to the fact that my dad's old enough to be my grandpa, and my mom almost is too. Even at my young age, I don't take our time for granted. Which makes it all that much more precious.
