My Favorite Movie Scene
Although I can't claim to have just one favorite movie, and the movie that my favorite scene is from is not even in the top ten, this scene just left me breathless. I watched it again and again obsessively. It's a scene at the end of the movie, Last of the Mohicans. Uncas had caught up to Magua and was fighting him, but Magua ended up mortally wounding Uncas and throwing him off the cliff. Alice, who Uncas had started to care for, and had somewhat returned that care, came to the edge of the cliff herself with Magua nearby, took a slow and deliberate look over the edge, and jumped over - but not before giving Magua a look. That look made the entire scene for me. The whole movie she was so afraid, so skiddish. But in that moment, when she realized how she felt about Uncas and she watched him die, her fear left her. She chose her death for herself with bravery that she got from seeing Uncas be brave for her. The cinematography didn't hurt it, either. The director had the soundtrack line up with what was happening in such an impressive way. I love it when the music is its own character in a movie!
Anyway, I wanted to put those thoughts out there, since no one actually reads this blog. :)
