I'm So Proud Of Myself For Finishing A Book!
And not just any book- The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. I had to get through the whole thing in a week, since I didn't start reading it until Thanksgiving week, and it has to be read by tomorrow. So I was reading like a madman all through the week! It seemed to be all I did the whole time. And maybe forty pages a day doesn't seem like a lot to some, but that study guide I had to do doubled the time spent! At any rate, I was pleasantly surprised by that book! As far as I can remember, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer didn't capture my attention very well, so I did not have high hopes for this novel. But it was soooo goood!! Once you get past the Southern way of talking and having to say it out loud to yourself to be able to understand, it was really quite interesting. And usually classics like that don't do it for me, like To Kill A Mockingbird. But I really got into this one, despite the fact that I was pressured for time. The one thing that really bugged me was Tom Sawyer in the last part of the book. His character thoroughly annoyed me, because (if you've read it) all he does is so unnecessary and time-wasting that it's ridiculous! Did he not even consider how badly Jim wanted to be free, to find his family and make a life?! It was all a game to him, and while reading all the last chapters with him doing his thing, I became more and more annoyed. If I was Jim, I'd be so sassy and upset with Tom. Why does Huck never question him either? I would not want to be in a friendship like that. If I was Huck, I'd just bail on Tom and his silly ego game. But maybe Huck's a better person than I am. I KNOW Jim is. OH- and also, the whole time I was wondering how big their raft was. Because when I picture a raft in my head, I see a tiny little square thing, like a little mattress floaty in a pool. But apparently this thing had a 'wigwam' on it, so it must have been pretty big. How convenient, too, that there's just a random raft to use at the beginning of the story; something like that would take forever to build! But a raft with a little tent on it seems like a pretty sweet place to live. If I was a hobo, that would be my home of choice. You catch fish on it, sleep on it, build a fire on it- I JUST CAN'T GET OVER IT!!!!
Well. I don't think that counts as a book review, but that's just how I feel about it. If you haven't read that book, READ IT! Unless you're young and are in high school or younger. Don't read it now, because you probably will have to your junior year. And reading books twice, IN MY OPINION, is no fun.

I think I'll read that one again. Also, I'm going to read the books, especially the classics, I read back in college.
